The call was made after Prithvi Subba Gurung who was appointed the Chief Minister for Gandaki on May 12 failed to win a vote of confidence from the Province Assembly in accordance with Article 168 (4) of the constitution. The May 12 appointment of the CM was made per the Article 168 (3) of the constitution. With the receipt of the letter from the Province Assembly about Gurung’s inability to obtain the vote of trust, the Province Chief called on Province Assembly members to claim for the Chief Ministerial post in accordance with Article 168 (5) of the constitution, according to Province Chief Office spokesperson Chandi Prasad Aryal. The Province Chief has called on Province Assembly members to stake a claim for the post by 3:00 pm Saturday in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the constitution if there is a situation of commanding a majority in the Province Assembly. The existing Council of Ministers shall, in accordance with the Article 169 (1) continue to act until the next State Council of Ministers is formed.
