Opposition alliance call for joining hands in rescue and relief of flood, landslide affected


KATHMANDU – The alliance of opposition parties has called on the government to carry out the rescue and relief of the flood and landslide affected people in an effective manner.

It has also called for protecting the people from flood, landslide and inundation, to immediately make provision for shelter and food for the affected people and the displaced ones, assistance to the families of the deceased and rescue and treatment of the injured in the incidents of disaster.

The top leaders of the opposition parties, through a joint statement today, urged for pursuing the works of disaster management by fully mobilising all the related bodies of the state and means and resources in an honest and transparent manner with alacrity.

Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal chairperson Upendra Yadav and Rastriya Janamorcha Party’s vice-chairperson Durga Poudel have called on all the party workers and organisations to contribute from their respective places in the rescue and relief activities and extend cooperation to the affected communities in the time of serious natural disaster like this.

Flood and landslide calamity has been witnessed in most of the districts of the country at the beginning of the monsoon rainfall itself. Many people have lost their lives while physical structures and cereal crops worth billions of rupees have been damaged as well as livestock have perished due to this disaster.

As a result, the life which was already adversely affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic has become further more treacherous. The top leaders of the alliance have paid tribute to those who lost their lives to the flood and landslide as well as expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
