KATHMANDU – Former King Gyanendra Shah has urged all political actors to abandon politics of retaliation and exclusion, calling for a unified approach focused on the nation.Politics
In a video message issued on the occasion of the New Year 2083, he expressed serious concern over the country’s current political situation and called on stakeholders to move forward by prioritising national interest.
He stressed the need to address existing dissatisfaction and public demands through dialogue, consensus and cooperation. “There should be no delay in seeking constitutional solutions by respecting public aspirations,” he said, adding that resentment and revenge do not serve the nation’s interest.
Reflecting on past political and governance changes, Shah said Nepal has often been treated as a “testing ground,” noting that changes in systems and leadership have not significantly improved the overall situation.
“We have moved restlessly in instability, yet lagged far behind in national prosperity,” he said.
Amid the concerns, he welcomed the growing participation of educated, technologically aware and modern-thinking youth in politics and governance, expressing hope that it could bring positive outcomes for the country.
Extending New Year greetings, he emphasised that the path forward should be based on unity and collective commitment rather than conflict.
