Kathmandu – A 38-member contingent of the Nepal Army participated in the first edition of the multinational neighbourhood military field training exercise ‘Ex Pragati’ hosted by the Indian Army at FTN, Umroi, from 18 to 31 May 2026.
The exercise brought together armed forces from eleven friendly foreign countries reflecting a growing emphasis on regional defence cooperation and interoperability.
The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu informed that the exercise strengthened the military to military connect with friendly foreign countries in addition to achieving enhanced operational synergy, mutual trust and developed collective capabilities among participating nations.
The training drill focused on strengthening operational coordination among participating militaries, with emphasis on joint planning, field-level execution and improving collective response capabilities in multinational settings.
A key highlight of the exercise was the participation of a three-member observer delegation from Nepal, led by Lt Gen Pradeep Jung KC, Vice Chief of the Army Staff of the Nepali Army.
The delegation attended the validation phase and the closing ceremony held between 28 and 31 May at Umroi, underscoring Nepal’s active engagement in regional defence initiatives.
Held in Umroi, the exercise is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen defence diplomacy and build collective capabilities among friendly foreign militaries.
Officials noted that ‘Ex Pragati’ marks another step forward in enhancing military-to-military ties and advancing shared operational readiness across participating nations.
