Kathmandu – The U.S. Embassy in Nepal on Tuesday handed over advanced digital forensic software, hardware and specialised equipment to the Nepal Police Digital Forensic Laboratory. The aim is to strengthen the country’s capacity to investigate cybercrime and analyse digital evidences.
Equipment was formally handed over during a programme held at Nepal Police Headquarters in the presence of Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Scott Urbom.
Speaking at the event IGP Karki said, the U.S. Embassy has consistently supported the development of the Nepal Police Digital Forensic Laboratory through the provision of advanced forensic equipment, specialised software and technical assistance.
He said the continuous support by the US reflects the trust, friendship and shared commitment between the two countries in strengthening law enforcement cooperation.
Karki said the newly acquired equipment would significantly enhance the laboratory’s ability to collect, preserve and analyse the digital evidence. He added that the upgraded capacity would improve cybercrime investigations and enable authorities to deliver timely forensic analysis during emergencies and complex criminal cases.
Chargé d’Affaires Urbom said he was confident the modern equipment would further strengthen the capabilities of the Nepal Police Digital Forensic Laboratory and contribute to more effective criminal investigations and evidence collection.
The handover programme was attended by Nepal Police Central Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Abi Narayan Kafle, officials from the U.S. Embassy and senior Nepal Police officers.
