Nepal, Australia discuss expanding trade and economic cooperation

Kathmandu [Nepal], July 14 – Nepal’s Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav and Australian Ambassador to Nepal Simon Ernst held talks on Tuesday focusing on strengthening bilateral trade, economic cooperation and investment ties.

The meeting held at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies in Singha Durbar reviewed the current state of relations between the two countries and explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in trade and economic development.

Ambassador Ernst congratulated Minister Yadav on her tenure and expressed Australia’s willingness to work closely with Nepal’s current government. He said Australia is committed to advancing cooperation in line with the government’s development priorities and is looking forward to expanding engagement across multiple sectors.

The two sides also reviewed existing import and export trends and discussed ways to make bilateral trade more balanced and effective. While trade between Nepal and Australia has grown in recent years both countries acknowledged the scope for further expansion through stronger commercial partnerships.

Discussions also focused on the role of the Nepali diaspora in Australia in promoting trade, tourism and investment. Both sides noted that the growing Nepali community could serve as an important bridge for enhancing business links, encouraging tourism and attracting greater investment between the two countries.

Minister Yadav thanked Australia for its continued support to Nepal’s development efforts and expressed confidence that economic and commercial relations would continue to strengthen in the years ahead. She said closer cooperation could create new opportunities for businesses and contribute to sustainable economic growth in both countries.
