KATHMANDU – Nepal Communisty Party (NCP) co chairs KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ have held a meeting amid growing internal disputes in the party.
The two chairmen resumed the dialogue that has been stalled for 11 days. During the meeting, NCP Executive Chairman Prachanda proposed the party co chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to hold a secretariat meeting as soon as possible.
According to a party source, the two chairmen discussed the intra-party disputes during the meeting. The last time the two chairmen held a meeting was on November 20. Although party co chair Oli had mobilized leaders to reach out to Prachanda to persuade him to resume conversation, the latter was reluctant to hold one-and-one talks with the Prime Minister Oli.
Prachanda is dissatisfied with Prime Minister Oli for his reluctance to implement the report of a task force formed under party General Secretary Bishnu Paudel to resolve intraparty disputes, as well as early September’s standing committee meeting’s decision. The two chairmen’s relations have further soured after the intra party dispute in Karnali province. Prachanda is reportedly disappointed with Prime Minister Oli after his advisor issued a ‘wrong statement’ conflicting with the agreement between two chairmen to end the disputes in Karnali province.
The recent visit of the Indian RAW Chief and meeting with the Prime Minister, the Birgunj incident where a district leader of the party was killed and Oli’s letter to Karnali’s Chief Minister instructing him to withdraw action against chief whip have all worsened relations between the party co-chairs.
Ending a drought of dialogue for over 10 days, the co-chairs held the meeting. During the meeting held today for nearly two hours, Prachanda proposed Prime Minister Oli to convene the secretariat meeting to discuss the recent issues including RAW Chief’s visit, Karnali’s disputes and Parsa incident.
