Kathmandu: A meeting of the Joint Inspection Mechanism (Oversight Mechanism) between Nepal and India has been concluded. In the meeting held in Kathmandu on Monday, India concluded that it has rebuilt 46,301 houses in Nepal that were previously destroyed by the earthquake.
The meeting was attended by Nepali Foreign Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi from Indian Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was held via video conference, and discussions were held on the ongoing Indian-funded projects in Nepal. The meeting also discussed the Terai road, cross-border railway, petroleum pipeline, all and Pancheshwor, all of which are multi-purpose projects that were undertaken through Nepal-India bilateral cooperation.
“Discussions were held on reconstruction, irrigation, power and transmission lines, construction of Nepal Police Academy, integrated check post, Ramayana Circuit, HICDPs, motorable bridges over the Mahakali River, agriculture and cultural heritages,” said the Ministry in a statement.
During the meeting, the Indian side stated that it has rebuilt 46,301 houses and is committed to rebuild 50,000 houses altogether which had been destroyed by the 2072 earthquake. Similarly, the two parties also discussed theMotihari-Amalekhgunj Petroleum Pipeline.
The Nepali side reviewed the overall projects and thanked India for its support in the fight against the ongoing pandemic. The Ministry stayed there was no discussion on the border dispute as it was a meeting of the mechanism.
In addition, the government of Nepal expressed its gratitude towards India for providing medical and technical assistance to help fight against Covid-19.
