Trump nominated for Nobel Peace prize

Washington: US President Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize just after a few weeks of aiding to make a peace deal between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel.

“For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees, said Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a Norwegian politician who also serves as the Chairman of the Norwegian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, in the nomination letter

Trump had earlier been nominated by former Japanese PM Sinjo Abe after receiving a request from the US government in 2018 following the President’s Singapore summit with his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong Un. However, the Nobel Peace Prize was instead awarded to Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad in 2018.

So far, four US Presidents— Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, Woodrow Wilson in 1920, Jimmy Carter in 2002, and Barack Obama in 2009– have received the Nobel Peace Prize.

The winner of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize will not be announced until October of next year.
