KATHMANDU : An artificial lake is to be constructed in the Madi River flowing through the Byas municipality-3 and 5 of Tanahun. The municipality is constructing the lake in the hopes of promoting tourism.
In this connection, the municipality has signed a memorandum of understanding with Eco-Code Nepal and Paragon JV for the preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of the artificial lake. Mayor Baikuntha Neupane handed over the memorandum of understanding to the representative of Eco-Code Nepal and Paragon JV.
Chief Administrative Officer Dilliram Sigdel shared that the municipality is preparing a DPR in the preliminary stage to develop human settlement in the vicinity of the river and operate various productive projects to conserve the area.
The municipality has begun the process of forming an artificial lake along with a master plan for developing various infrastructures in the 18-km area of the river under wards 3, 4,5, 6, 7 and 10.
The municipality is planning to provide boating services in the lake to attract tourists. As part of the project, structures such as an indigenous village, meeting hall, botanical garden, recreational centre, waterpark and a mini golf court will also be constructed.
