CIAA Chief Ghimire tested positive for coronavirus

Valley observes the highest single day spike of 134 new COVID-19 cases


Kathmandu- The Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Navin Kumar Ghimire, has tested positive for coronavirus infection.

CIAA Chief Commissioner Ghimire’s infection with coronavirus was confirmed in a test report that came on Tuesday, a source at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). While the ministry or the CIAA has not officially disclosed the report of Ghimire like in the case of others, the source said that the chief of the anti-corruption watchdog caught COVID-19. His driver and seven police working as his escorts have also tested positive for coronavirus some days ago.

According to a CIAA source, he has stopped coming to office and remained at home isolation after four dozen staff members at the CIAA were tested positive for the coronavirus infection.However, none of them have been admitted to the hospital so far. CIAA Chief Ghimire is the latest name among prominent figures who have contracted COVID-19 in recent days.

Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Vijay Sarawagi, and Gyanendra Yadav, Home Minister of Province 2, are some other prominent figures who have tested positive. According to the MoHP, it has recorded 638 new cases of COVID-19 across the country through 10,462 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests in the last 24 hours. Kathmandu Valley alone saw 134 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, the highest single day spike, according to the ministry.
