Why did Army Chief Thapa meet  Chief Justice Rana?

Meeting between the army chief and the chief justice comes amid preparation of the apex court to issue its verdict on House dissolution case in a few days

KATHMANDU – Purna Chandra Thapa, Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) of the Nepal Army, has held a meeting with Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana.

Nepa Army Chief Thapa reached the Supreme Court today to meet Chief Justice Rana.

The meeting between the Army Chief and the Chief Justice comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s preparation to issue its verdict on the House dissolution case in a few days.

However, it’s not immediately clear what transpired at the meeting.

The Chief Justice is also in the five-member Constitutional Bench that is preparing to issue it’s ‘landmark’ verdict on whether the government’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives was in line with the constitution.

Earlier on December 20 last year, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli suddenly decided to dissolve the House and set dates for midterm elections.

The move was not only challenged in the Supreme Court, but also left the ruling Nepal Communist Party on the verge of a split.
