Informal secretariat meeting convened by Prachanda decides to pressurize NCP co-chair Oli to call formal meeting

While majority secretariat members attend the informal meeting, others close to PM Oli boycott calling it ‘factional’ gathering

KATHMANDU: An informal secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) convened by party co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has decided to pressurize co-chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to immediately hold a secretariat meeting.

The informal meeting attended by a majority of secretariat members held today at the party headquarters in Dhumbarahi decided to request Prime Minister Oli to keep the party unity intact.

However, four secretariat members close to Prime Minister Oli had boycotted the informal meeting, terming it a ‘factional’ gathering.

As Prime Minister Oli declined repeated requests from Prachanda to hold a secretariat meeting,  he decided to hold the informal meeting today.

Prachanda decided to hold the informal meeting amid rising intra-party disputes.

NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the informal meeting today concluded that it was appropriate to hold a secretariat meeting based on consensus, though Prachanda could have decided on holding such a meeting.

“Co-chair Oli will be requested tomorrow to convene a secretariat meeting based on consensus and take the party ahead toward unity,” he added.
