Prachanda presents political report in secretariat meeting held amid intra-party disputes

Next meeting scheduled for next Wednesday after secretariat members study political report

KATHMANDU:  The secretariat meeting of the governing Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has concluded with a decision to hold another meeting on November 18.

Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the NCP Spokesperson, said that the party’s executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ presented a political report during the secretariat meeting, which lasted for 40 minutes.

Prachanda tabled the political report, which incorporates the letter that the majority of secretariat members had submitted to Prime Minister Oli seeking his consent to hold the meeting as well as his response to the letter.

Shrestha said that the next secretariat meeting will be held next Wednesday after all members study the political report presented by the Executive Chairman.

Despite initial resistance, NCP co-chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli agreed to convene the secretariat meeting on Friday following massive pressure from a majority of the secretariat members, who demanded that the meeting discuss the growing intra-party disputes.

The nine-member secretariat comprises Oli, Prachanda, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Bamdev Gautam, Bishnu Paudel, Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, Ishwor Pokharel and Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
