NCP senior leader Nepal blames Oli’s factionalism as root cause of current crisis in ruling party

Party won't split on UML and Maoists lines, says senior leader Nepal

KATHMANDU – Madhav Kumar Nepal, senior leader of the Nepal Communust Party (NCP), has warned party chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli against splitting the NCP.

Speaking at the secretariat meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, senior leader Nepal blamed Oli’s actions of promoting factionalism as the root cause of the current crisis within the ruling NCP.

“Do not think that erstwhile CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist-Center) will be separate if the party splits. You [Oli] and your lead on promoting factionalism are the root cause of the problem,” said senior leader Nepal. “The party runs on the basis of party statute and other documents. There is no former UML or Maoists party. They have already been dissolved,” he added.

In the secretariat meeting held on Saturday, Oli had told party executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ that there is a majority of erstwhile CPN-UML in all party committees ranging from the secretariat to the local level.

“Remember, there is at least one more member in all party committees from secretariat to local levels. What if I had used that majority?” he had questioned.
