Hearing on writ petition filed by House Speaker against appointments in constitutional bodies to be held today

Single bench led by Judge Prakash Kumar Dhungana will also decide today whether to issue interim order staying appointees from making any decision in their offices as demanded in the writ petition

KATHMANDU – The hearing on a writ petition filed by House Speaker Agni Sapkota against appointments in constitutional bodies has been scheduled for today.

A single bench of Judge Prakash Kumar Dhungana is hearing the case today.

The apex court will decide today whether to issue interim order to stay new appointees from making any decision in their offices.

Earlier on Friday, House Speaker Sapkota had filed a writ petition against the government’s appointments in various constitutional bodies.

Arguing that the recent appointments were ‘unconstitutional’, House Speaker Sapkota had registered the writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking the apex court’s verdict to scrap all those appointments.

In his writ petition, House Speaker Sapkota had also demanded an interim order to stay all appointees to make any decision in their offices.

The Office of the President, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Constitutional Council Chairman and its secretariat and Chief Justice Cholenda Shumsher JB Rana as a Constitutional Council member, among others, have been made defendants in the writ petition.
