Based on the government’s recommendation, President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Friday appointed Badal as the new Auditor General of the country. The government appointed Badal as the new Auditor General after Agni Prasad Kharel tendered his resignation from the post on Friday. Lawyer by profession, Badal is also a vice president of General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), a trade union close to the main ruling CPN (UML). The Auditor General works as the chief legal advisor of the government. Badal was also a lawyer who had defended Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s move to dissolve the House of Representatives in the Supreme Court which later reinstated the lower house. He will be administered the oath of office and secrecy by President Bhandari on Sunday.
