Health Ministry confirms one more Covid-19 related death and 740 new cases as national tally crosses 15,000

An 85-year-old man in Kathmandu died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Wednesday.


Nepal confirmed its 32nd Covid-19 related death and registered 740 new cases, the highest in a single day, on Friday as the national tally reached 15,259.

“An 85-year-old man from New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, who was admitted to a private hospital for chest pain and urine related ailments, died at 11 pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit,” said Dr Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson for the Health Ministry, at a regular press briefing. “He had high blood pressure and was suffering from Parkinson’s disease.”

With the new fatality, the Covid-19 toll has reached 32.

The ministry also confirmed 740 new cases in the last 24 hours.

“Out of the 4,483 PCR tests carried out in the last 24 hours at various labs across the country, samples of 740 individuals came back positive for the coronavirus,” said Gautam.

The country had recorded one death and 473 new cases on Thursday while one death and 482 new cases were confirmed on Wednesday.

“So far, 242,247 polymerase chain reaction tests have been conducted across the country,” said Gautam. “A total of 6,143 individuals have recovered from the disease in the country.”
