Following a minister-level decision made last week, land owners will now be allowed to plot their lands. Janak Raj Joshi, spokesperson at the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, said that the Ministry has decided to relax the restriction on land plotting following complaints by the public who have been facing problems with transfer of land ownership. According to a directive issued by the Ministry, all decisions related to land fragmentation have been scrapped and the provision barring land plotting has been lifted. Earlier in August 2017, the then Land Management Minister Gopal Dahit had decided to bar plotting of land without permission of concerned authorities. The decision was aimed at curbing urbanization and shrinkage of arable lands due to plotting at a rapid pace.
