International Concern Over Nepal’s Political Crisis, Emphasis on Dialogue for Solution

KATHMANDU – Growing international concern and engagement have emerged over Nepal’s deepening political crisis.

The United Nations, international partners, and the global community have expressed interest in the unfolding situation in Nepal, urging for a swift resolution.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called for a constructive solution through dialogue. Expressing sorrow over the loss of Nepali lives during violent protests, he stated that the UN is closely monitoring the developments. He further urged that dialogue must pave the way for a constructive outcome.

Similarly, Nepal’s two neighbors, India and China, have also expressed concern over the unfolding events. Both countries have made it clear that peaceful protest and dialogue are the only alternatives.

In a statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi said it is closely following Nepal’s situation, hoping that all sides will exercise restraint and resolve issues peacefully through dialogue. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the violence in Nepal as heartbreaking, stressing that Nepal’s stability, peace, and prosperity are of utmost importance, while appealing to Nepali citizens to maintain peace and order.

The Chinese government also expressed concern, stating that Nepal and China are inseparable friends. Through a statement from its Foreign Ministry, China expressed confidence that Nepal would resolve its internal problems appropriately and restore peace and stability as soon as possible.

US President Donald Trump also voiced concern about the situation in Nepal. Meanwhile, various embassies in Nepal have expressed sorrow over the casualties and destruction caused by the recent violent protests.

The embassies of Australia, Finland, France, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States jointly issued a statement calling on all sides to exercise maximum restraint, prevent further escalation, seek peaceful solutions, and ensure full protection of citizens’ fundamental rights. The European Union also urged restraint to calm the situation following violent demonstrations.

The Gandhi Mandela Foundation has also expressed grief over the events surrounding the Gen Z movement in Nepal. Stressing that in a democratic system the voices and aspirations of the youth must be addressed by a responsible state, political parties, and stakeholders, the Foundation expressed concern over misunderstandings, violent clashes, and instability.

Similarly, members of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee have called for peace through democratic processes. Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Chris Van Hollen condemned the violence, human casualties, and arson in Nepal, terming them unacceptable, and urged that those responsible for harsh crackdowns against citizens be held accountable.
