KATHMANDU – Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that the country can only move forward by respecting and addressing the demands of the Gen Z protesters.
In a video message released today on social media, Thapa stated that Nepal cannot progress without addressing Gen Z’s demands, adding that the Nepali Congress is ready to support the formation of a government under the leadership chosen by Gen Z.
He said: “At this moment, the demands raised by our Gen Z friends must be respected and addressed; only then can the country move forward. The question of forming an interim government is on the table, and it may be finalized by this evening.
The Nepali Congress Party is not only ready to support a government formed under the leadership chosen by the movement’s participants, but we are also working to create the necessary environment for it.”
Thapa also called on Congress party members across the country to take initiatives from their respective positions to unite and connect everyone.
He said: “Nepal needs healing right now. We need an initiative that brings everyone together. This is the responsibility of the Congress Party because it is a national force. Therefore, I call upon my party colleagues-wherever you are-to take initiatives from your own place to bring people together.”
Reflecting on the events of Bhadra 23 and 24 (September 8-9), he said that the nation suffered an immeasurable loss, and that the incidents left a permanent scar on the party.
He added: “On Bhadra 23, an unimaginable event occurred-something no one wanted. You and I were not in government, but our party was. A stain has been left on our face, and it cannot be wiped off just by cleaning the mirror-we must work to remove it ourselves.
The Congress Party must apologize to the entire nation for this. We must try to heal this wound. The damage caused on Bhadra 24 is so great that no one can even fully comprehend it.”
