KATHMANDU – Amid the Gaza war, Israel has been increasingly isolated internationally. Countries such as Belgium, Spain, France, Canada, and Australia are preparing to recognize Palestine as an independent state.
Belgium has already decided to ban imports from Jewish settlements in the West Bank, declare extremist ministers as unwelcome, and stop providing consular services to its citizens living in those settlements. Similarly, Spain has taken strong measures such as banning Israeli ships and planes from using its ports and airspace, and restricting entry to individuals involved in the war.
Norway’s $2 trillion sovereign fund has started withdrawing investments from Israeli companies, while the European Union has also warned of suspending trade agreements.
Israel is also facing boycotts in cultural arenas such as the Eurovision contest, film, and sports, with well-known artists like Emma Stone reportedly supporting the movement.
Former Israeli diplomats have said that Israel’s international standing is at its weakest point ever. However, the United States is still providing full support to Israel.
Analysts warn that if Israel does not change its current policies, it could face a complete boycott from the international community.
