Government Seeks Details of Vehicles Used by Former High Officials

KATHMANDU – The government has stepped up efforts to curb the practice of drawing duplicate and excessive benefits from the state treasury.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide accurate details of vehicles currently being used by former high-ranking officials.

The move follows a recent study conducted by the Prime Minister’s Office, which found that some former officials were using more vehicles than permitted by law or receiving duplicate benefits from multiple agencies. Based on these findings, the Home Ministry has been asked to submit a clear and comprehensive report.

The directive specifically seeks full details-within office hours on Wednesday-regarding facilities being availed by former Presidents, Vice Presidents, Prime Ministers, Chief Justices, Speakers of the House of Representatives, and Chairpersons of the National Assembly.

The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the request has been made to prevent misuse of state funds and to uphold good governance.

The government’s action comes amid long-standing criticism that former high officials have been using government resources in violation of established standards.

Based on the report to be submitted by the Home Ministry, the government is preparing to reclaim vehicles from those found to be exceeding the prescribed limits and to further streamline the process.
