Kathmandu – A case has been filed against controversial medical practitioner Durga Prasai at the Parsa District Court on Monday, marking a key development in ongoing legal proceedings against him.
Chief District Attorney Manoj Prasad Gupta confirmed that the charges were registered under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063, for alleged acts against the state.
Prasai was earlier arrested by police in Birgunj on May 18.
According to police, the case was filed after completion of investigation in line with court orders. Parsa Police Chief SP Sudip Raj Pathak said the investigation was carried out following a Supreme Court directive.
The Supreme Court had earlier instructed authorities not to extend Prasai’s judicial remand without taking a decision on whether to proceed with charges or release him.
Subsequently, a bench comprising Justices Binod Sharma and Nityananda Pandey directed police to either file the case if the investigation was complete or release the accused.
Following the completion of investigation, police proceeded with filing the case in court.
Prasai has frequently drawn public attention due to his controversial public statements and has faced repeated arrests in the past on allegations related to disturbing public peace and cyber-related offences.
