Kathmandu [Nepal], July 9 – Nepal’s Minister for Health and Food Hygiene Nisha Mehta held talks with Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal Dagny Mjøs on Thursday focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in the health sector.
During the meeting the two sides discussed ways to deepen Nepal and Norway collaboration with particular emphasis on ongoing health partnerships.
The discussions reviewed Norwegian government supported initiatives aimed at strengthening Nepal’s healthcare system including health information system, mental health, health education, medical research, maternal and child health and the Female Community Health Volunteer programme.
Minister Mehta said the government has identified several priority areas in response to Nepal’s evolving healthcare needs and rising disease burden. These include developing health infrastructure, digitalising healthcare services, addressing the public health impacts of climate change, strengthening services for non-communicable diseases and mental health, promoting health tourism and advancing the herbal medicine sector. She expressed hope for expanded cooperation with Norway in these areas.
Ambassador Mjøs reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to continuing its support for Nepal’s development priorities the health sector.
She also said Norway is preparing to launch additional cooperation programmes. Nepal and Norway have maintained a long-standing partnership in health, education and sustainable development.
