Kathmandu [Nepal], August 17 – Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has pledged government support for promoting Nepal-made electric scooters after visiting the factory producing the Yatri P2 in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu.
During the visit, Wagle observed the manufacturing process of the electric scooter developed and produced by Sipradi Yatri. He praised the work of Nepali engineers and designers and encouraged the company to improve quality and compete in international markets.
Wagle described the domestic design and manufacture of electric two-wheelers as a historic achievement for Nepal. He urged the company to maximize local production and tell the government what policy support it needs to expand globally.
Yatri Electric Bike founder and CEO Ashim Pandey briefed the minister on the scooter’s design, safety testing, components and performance during trials.
Sipradi Trading CEO Rajan Babu Shrestha said the company had successfully tested the scooter on Nepal’s challenging hilly and mountainous terrain and was preparing to launch it for the general public.
Company officials said the Yatri P2 is the world’s first electric two-wheeler to have a DC charger integrated into the vehicle. Shrestha also called for supportive policies on raw materials used for batteries and scooter components.
The scooter is expected to be unveiled within days and is currently being kept confidential. Yatri was founded by Pandey in 2017 and later became Sipradi Yatri through a partnership with Sipradi Trading.
