Opposition against proposal to set Dang as provincial capital, 2,250 business people announce quitting ruling NCP

KATHMANDU: Nearly 2,250 business people affiliated with the main ruling Nepal Communist Party have announced that they will quit the party if the capital of Province 5 is shifted from Butwal to Dang.

Organizing a press meet in Butwal on Tuesday, 2,249 NCP-affiliated industrialists and businesspeople from Rupandehi announced that they will leave the NCP if the permanent provincial capital is established in Dang.

Local businesspeople and the main opposition party Nepal Congress’ in Rupandehi have taken to the street to protest the provincial government’s decision to propose Bhalubang in Dang as the permanent capital of Province 5.

Currently, Butwal is the temporary capital of Province 5.

Bhalubang will be the permanent capital if the government proposal garners two-third votes in the provincial assembly. The permanent capital in Bhalubang with Lumbini as the province name is almost certain to be endorsed. The ruling NCP commanding two-thirds majority in the assembly has already issued a whip to its members.
