KATHMANDU : The Embassy of Nepal in Oman has stated that a total of 830 Nepali migrant workers have returned home in five rescue flights so far since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
In a press statement today, the Embassy stated that efforts are ongoing to repatriate Nepali migrants in time as per their wishes in the face of the pandemic.
On Friday, a total of 165 Nepalis including 39 women returned home from a fifth rescue flight. The PCR tests of all the crew members and returnees on the flight have been confirmed negative. Meanwhile, Netra Kumari Rawat of Jhapa, a domestic worker in Oman who had been missing since 2070 BS, was also repatriated to Nepal on Friday.
It is said that her son Nabaraj had lodged an application through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to repatriate her.
The Embassy said that the woman had been contacted through diplomatic channels and evidence lodged by her son. The Embassy has also made facilities provide her healthcare treatment.
Likewise, Aruna Maden of Taplejung and Gaj Kumari Shrestha of Syangja, who had been stranded in Oman, have been brought back home on the Friday flight. Both women had gone to Oman seeking jobs via illegal routes at the hand of human traffickers.
Furthermore, almost 60 migrants including those working as domestic help were brought back in the rescue flight.
Nepal’s Ambassador in Muscat Sharmila Parajuli Dhakal and other embassy officials bade farewell to the migrant workers before their return to home.
