KATHMANDU – At the second Statute General Convention of the UML, group-wise presentations of suggestions on the reports have been completed.
On Sunday, the third day of the convention held at the Godawari center in Lalitpur, delegates were divided into 10 groups to present their suggestions on the reports.
Group leaders expressed agreement with the main concepts of the reports, including political report by Chairman KP Sharma Oli, statute amendments by Vice-Chairman Vishnu Paudel, organizational report by General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, and other commission reports, with some suggestions.
While presenting discussion reports, group leaders emphasized that there is no alternative to party leadership in the future except Chairman KP Sharma Oli.
Krishna Prasad Jaisi from Sudurpashchim Province stated that his group fully agreed with the reports presented at the convention. “Our group’s conclusion is that there is currently no alternative to Chairman Oli for party leadership,” Jaisi said.
Similarly, Gulabjung Shah, president of Karnali Province and a group leader, said that given the current situation, it is time to further strengthen and consolidate the leadership, and there is no alternative to Chairman Oli for the party’s future leadership. Lumbini Province President and group leader Radhakrishna Kandel said that to build socialism based on Nepali characteristics, the leadership must be established, and the party should move forward unitedly.
Chandreshwar Mandal, President of Madhes Province and group leader, also emphasized that the upcoming convention should give party leadership to Chairman Oli.
Rajendra Gautam, head of the Organization Department, said, “During discussions, only two to three members from each group opposed the party decision that former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s membership should not be renewed. Across all ten groups, the total number of comrades expressing this view is only 25.”
After the group leaders’ presentation with suggestions, the concerned leaders will respond to the suggestions, and then the party statute will be passed with the incorporated suggestions.
The second UML Statute General Convention began on Friday under the main slogan: ‘Our resolve is to build decisive national strength, prosperous Nepal, happy Nepali – the national destination.’
Even though all reports presented at the convention and party decisions received support, some believe that the party should remain flexible regarding the appeal by the country’s former president to retain her party membership.
In the group discussions, most representatives from Bagmati Province argued that former President Bhandari, who is a symbol of the nation, should not return to active party politics.
