The attacks, suspected to have been carried out by bandits, occurred on Monday, Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner for internal security and home affairs in the state, told reporters in the city of Kaduna, the state’s capital. The Nigerian military has commenced an operation to hunt the attackers, the official said. Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna condemned the attacks and called on security agencies to intensify their operations against the rampaging bandits. A series of attacks by armed groups have plagued the northern part of Nigeria in recent months.
